Teaching

" Pleased to introduce you to one of the nicest and best piano teachers in the city. She teaches our kids and is amazing! " - Patrick Watson, father of Dahlia (7) and Gavin (5). Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn.

" Raquel is an extraordinary dancer, musician, artist and teacher.  As well as being brilliantly talented in her own art and technically skilled, she has a magical ability to engage and inspire children.  Both my children adore her and love spending time in her beautiful creative space, whether that’s playing the piano or dancing, or both.  She works in a careful, intuitive way, staying very present to the needs of the child in that moment, with the result that she captures the hearts and imagination of anyone she works with.   I would thoroughly recommend her! " - Jennie Withers, mother of Gracie (2) and Victory (6). East Village, New York.

Piano Lessons in New York - Spring/Summer 2016

Raquel Dutra instigates and inspires early childhood children and everyone, of any age to the initiation of piano studies.

Children starting as early as 2 years and on will be introduced to the piano and other music instruments will allow them to start their relationship since very young with a beautiful instrument, and their familiarity with music and making music.

As a teacher for few years now (maybe 7 years with young children), a pianist and dancer, watching young and older people moving and playing, and being surrounded and inspired by the Waldorf thoughts of growth and education, I feel and think that early childhood children learn best through play, exploration and imitation, without too much structure, more simple and gentle, to allow the children’s creativity, imagination and desire to not be succumbed by all that is about to come, techniques, patterns, reading, songs…  Children are full of energy so it’s not easy to sit for so 30/45 minutes… but they can dialogue with music, even going in and out of it… And I think they do this time in and out to allow some information to be absorbed.

Children and everyone are invited to play the piano, with their full creativity, desire and curiosity. Improvisation and Composition, Reading (in it's full complexity), Theory, Harmony, Scales and Songs are our focus and material to discover.

Piano Lessons are tough at our Dutra/Mimouni Studios at LES, Manhattan, New York.
