Paint that breathes.
I paint large, standing up, with my whole arm. No subject is decided in advance. I work until the canvas does to my breath what water and weather do, and then I stop.
All my paintings come from movement, the desire of original expression and the desire of colors. With a background in dancing and piano playing since very young, becoming a composer and choreographer in youth and maturing into painting — passing the ephemeral work of performance into performing on canvas, through soft touches and gestures, like playing the piano with my fingers and touching colors. Pieces that powerfully and yet so softly inspire the senses and sensations. A soft perfume.
Painting and finding gestures, repetitive gestures, expressions of the whole body and imagination. Finding colors and suddenly finding shapes. All coming together by chance and a touch of magic.
Fingers, hands, brushes. Acrylic, oil, natural pigments. Canvas, walls, wood, x-ray lights.
Raquel Dutra
The Sun and The Ocean, made to face each other.
One warm, one cool. Hang them on opposite walls and the room has a whole day in it.

Five paintings, one weather.
The squares are each 1.2 × 1.2 m. The Sun is a smaller vertical canvas, about half that size. Originals on canvas. Price upon request — write, and I will answer within a day with the price and the shipping to your door.

Amethyst
The one that came out of a hard winter. Violet pushing through brown, which is exactly what that season felt like in the body.

The Ocean
Almost nothing happens in this one, which took the longest. A line, and the air changing above and below it. The cool half of the pair.

The Tempest
White and yellow breaking through the green. Stand close and it keeps moving.

River light
Working title. Blue and yellow, water under trees.

The Sun
Painted for a room that does not get morning light, to give it one.
From the studio, 2015 to now.
Untitled for now. Each one is available to see in person in the Hudson Valley, or by video from the studio.
Choose the one your body stops at.
One painting
The canvas itself, signed, with the story of how it was made. Large work, crated and shipped, or delivered by hand in the Hudson Valley.
The Sun and The Ocean
The warm one and the blue one, made to face each other and sold together. A room with both ends of the day in it.
Large archival print
For when the original has gone, or the wall asks for something lighter. Printed on cotton paper, signed, in two sizes.
